A view from the beginning… Primary movement essentials.
Experience, learning, and development.
At birth most infants have an astonishing movement repertoire that is engaged for experience, rapid learning and development. The infant is reliant on these primary movement essentials, which must be dynamically “assembled” to meet the needs of their continuously growing and changing structure.
Although there is a very large degree of individual variation, amazingly, the majority of infants arrive at the familiar “milestones” of reaching, rolling, crawling, creeping, sitting, standing, climbing, walking, running, hopping and jumping at more or less the same age. The emergence of these increasingly more advanced skills is in part a result of the infant’s successful use of the same primary movement repertoire.
Our study this year will focus on this movement resource that the infant has from the beginning, a resource that is integrated to achieve developmental “milestone” progression.
We will look at order and priority within the process of development and learning, extending our investigation to see how these essential early movements are used in various ways for acquiring skill across the lifespan.
Through this consideration of development we can better understand the building blocks of function and gain critical insight and direction for best meeting an individual’s needs, whether it be for a child who is developmentally delayed or an adult whose recovery does not seem to be progressing.
This advanced training offers a potent perspective that will serve to significantly quicken the pace of your engagement with and mastery of the Feldenkrais Method, inspiring a new level for creating positive influence and powerful strategies for improving the way you or a person you are working with feels, moves and acts.
Selected ATM lessons will provide the experience of particular sensation related to the organization of our most fundamental movement patterns.
To help further our study, the use of FI demonstration, group observation and practice will be incorporated at appropriate times.
